GSMA, 사용 격차 해소 노력 촉구...모바일 인터넷이 무색하게 30억 명은 여전히 사각지대에

런던, 2025년 9월 9일 -- 글로벌 모바일 산업 단체 GSMA가 연례 모바일 인터넷 연결 현황 보고서(State of Mobile Internet Connectivity report)를 통해 현재 전 세계 인구의 58%, 즉, 47억 명이 개인 기기를 통해 모바일 인터넷 서비스를 이용하고 있다고 밝혔다. 하지만 전 세계 인구의 96%가 모바일 인터넷을 이용할 수 있는 지역에 살고 있음에도 불구하고 31억 명은 여전히 모바일 인터넷에서 소외되어 있다. 전 세계 인구의 38%에 해당하는 이 사람들은 소위 사용 격차, 즉 커버리지 이외의 장벽으로 인해 인터넷에 접속할 수 없는 상황에 놓여 있다. 또한 전 세계 인구의 4%에 해당하는 3억 명은 모바일 인터넷에 연결할 수 없는 소위 '커버리지 갭' 지역에 살고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 종합하면 2024년 현재 전 세계적으로 34억 명이 모바일 인터넷 서비스를 이용하지 못 하고 있다는 뜻이다. 그중 압도적 다수는 커버리지 지역에 살고 있으면서도 사용할 수 없거나 사용할 의향이 없는 상태다. 모바일은 여전히 저소득 및 중저소득 국가(LMIC)에서 대다
