TAIPEI, Sept. 10, 2025 -- The attitude of Taiwanese women toward childbirth is rapidly changing. With the legalization of same-sex marriage, rising educational attainment among female, and increased participation in the workforce, the traditional model of "marriage necessarily leading to childbirth" is no longer the norm. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the average age of first-time mother in Taiwan has exceeded 33, and the total fertility rate has fallen to the lowest in the world. Many women are choosing to delay childbirth, have fewer children, or forgo having children altogether. This shift not only reflects practical pressures but also highlights the rise of women's autonomy.
Since the legalization of same-sex marriage, groups such as female couples and single women have gradually gained visibility, making the concept of "family" more diverse. Their needs regarding childbirth are also significantly different from the past: some choose egg freezing to preserve future options, while others turn to cross-border medical services and third-party assisted reproduction to fulfill their dreams of forming a family. For modern women, childbirth is no longer a societal expectation but a personal choice that can be independently decided and supported by technology.
Reproductive Sciences Medical Center (RSMC) has observed a significant increase in recent years in the number of women from Asia seeking consultations. Many are not driven by urgent medical issues but rather by a desire to "gain control of their fertility". Patients include not only career elites but also couples planning delayed childbirth and LGBT families, collectively reflecting the new attitudes of Taiwanese women toward childbirth.
In response to this trend, RSMC will host an online seminar on September 28, inviting two guest groups: a Taiwanese female couple and a single professional woman, who will share their successful journeys to parenthood. The session will also invite Dr. Harari, President of RSMC with over 30 years of experience in assisted reproduction, addressing frequently asked questions on fertility. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of egg freezing, IVF, and third-party assisted reproductive technologies. Welcome to join and sign up required!
